I unlock the Frills West studio door and head inside the cool building. Clementine has a habit of leaving the AC on full blast when she leaves on Friday nights, and since I wasnât in the office last week to turn it down due to working on the coffee shop design, itâs basically freezing in here. Normally, I get annoyed, but today, I appreciate the frigid air.
I immediately sit at my desk and pull out my laptop. Itâs time to order the new tables for the coffee shop and have them sent to an art studio I found for individualization. As I scroll through the options that the owner said I could pick from, I struggle to concentrate.
My mind always falls back on Spencer and what happened Saturday night and yesterday morning. I was too harsh on him. I know I was. The cameras donât bother me that much, and I told my friends to stop sending me the articles, so I wonât have them blowing up my phone. It was just an excuse to run away because Iâm scared of how I feel for Spencer.
I can be unfortunately self-aware, which is both a blessing and a curse.
âGirl, I heard about you and Spencer; how are you feeling?â Clementine says as she enters. She throws the magazine on the desk in front of me, open to a picture of my crying face.
âThis photo was out of context. Spencer and I are fine. Those camera people caught me off guard, and thatâs why I was so upset.â
Clementine blows out a breath. âThatâs far less exciting than I was hoping for. I thought for sure you two had a massive blowout at his mansion. You were leaving in the same dress you wore to the premier on Saturday. Talk about a walk of shame!â
âI have no shame. Yes, I was wearing the same dress, but thatâs because I didnât have anything else to put on. I donât see why youâre so interested in this.â
She rolls her eyes. âItâs Hollywood, baby. Everything is interesting here. And nothing is interesting at the same time, which is a fun paradox. I guess Iâll get to work.â
âIâm going to run and grab some coffee from down the street. Do you want anything?â
âNo, Iâm good.â
Clementine hunkers down at her desk, and I grab my purse and walk to the coffee shop Iâve been frequenting since the Frills West office opened. The coffee isnât the best, but it does the trick.
A shrill voice calls out my name as I push open the door. I close my eyes and take a few cleansing breaths before turning to face Candy, who is waving at me from down the street.
âWow, small world! So glad I ran into you. Sorry to hear about you and Spencer, but your loss is my gain, you know?â
âSpencer and I are fine.â
Candy pouts. âI donât believe you. Why else would he have dinner with me tonight?â
âI donât know. Heâs allowed to have dinner with anyone he wants.
